Haiti Gang Update
Port-au-Prince is still controlled by gangs. According to reports, the 400 Kenyan police imported to fight gangs seem to be focusing their minimal efforts outside of the capital. Are they afraid of the gangs? Is there a political motivation for allowing gangs to continue to control Port-au-Prince?
Haiti has a long history of corrupt governments. It seems impossible for Haiti to have an honest leader whose priority is to build a secure, profitable country. And, of course, it’s the citizens of Haiti who suffer every day.
As I’ve documented, during my first visit to Haiti in 2007, I was most impressed by the perseverance and will to survive of the Haitian people. I resolved, then, to rescue and support abandoned children living on the streets of Port-au-Prince. None of these children chose to be born in Haiti. None of them chose to have no parental support. We must step up to help these kids.
Your continued support allows us to send funds to feed hungry people in Haiti. In addition to Family Care Haiti, we have “boots on the ground” who can get food direct to children and adults living in poverty in Port-au-Prince.
Thank you for your generosity.
